Having worked a 53-hour week since the beginning of June, with no more than one day off in July, a weekend off and a change of scenery were everything I could ask for. Tallinn has been our favourite summer weekend getaway, since it is conveniently close and relatively inexpensive, yet with an abundance of things to see and experience. Personally, I can't get enough of the streets of the old town and am quite happy to just wander about, without a plan or schedule. Whilst I enjoy my daily life, this weekend had me realize (or finally admit) that I have worked myself too hard the past couple of months. Whilst the tight schedules have reminded me to appreciate those few hours before and after work, I am glad to say never again. From here on I will make it my priority to take time for myself and for doing the things I like doing best. My hours will finally decrease in August and as if by some magical coincidence the weather forecasts are promising, after a lousy summer, a change for the better too. I feel as if coming out of a fog into the light.
Paahdettuani 53-tuntista viikkoa kesäkuun alusta lähtien, heinäkuussa yhden vapaapäivän voimin, olivat viikonloppuvapaa ja maisemanvaihdos erittäin tervetullutta vaihtelua. Tallinna on ollut kesäisten viikonloppureissujen suosikkikohteemme, koska se on sopivan lähellä ja suhteellisen edullinen - ja silti täynnä nähtävää ja tehtävää. Itse en saa tarpeekseni vanhan kaupungin kaduista, joilla vaeltelen tyytyväisenä ilman sen suurempia suunnitelmia tai aikatauluja. Vaikka nautin arjestani, sai viikonloppu minut viimein ymmärtämään (tai myöntämään), että olen työllistänyt itseäni liikaa viime kuukaudet. Tiukka aikataulu on toki saanut minut arvostamaan niitä muutamaa tuntia ennen ja jälkeen työpäivän, ja käyttämään ne tehokkaasti. Olen kuitenkin onnellinen voidessani sanoa, ettei sama toistu enää ikinä. Tästä lähin pidän huolen, että varaan viikosta aikaa itselleni ja niiden asioiden tekemiseen, joista pidän eniten. Työtuntini vähenevät taas elokuussa ja kuin taianomaisen sattuman myötä lupaavat sääennusteet myös aurinkoisia päiviä surkean kesän jälkeen. Tuntuu kuin olisin astumassa sakeasta sumusta valoon.
